How to Style Your My Moon and Stars Ornament

Whether you’ve just unboxed your keepsake ornament or you’re still thinking about ordering, we put together a style guide to help you find the perfect way to display it.

This year’s design was inspired by how our babies become our whole universe — the moon representing a mamma’s constant love, and the stars representing our children, dreams, and memories. It’s a piece made to tell your story — no matter what inclusions you choose.

1. On Your Holiday Tree — the Classic Way

Every year, my family picks a meaningful ornament to serve as a reflection of the year. It became a holiday tradition. I started with 1 ornament in 2003 which held locks of hair from each of my children, flakes that represent their birth month color and breastmilk from my nursing journey. It quickly became the most beautiful and most meaningful ornament on my tree. I became obsessed and currently have 8 breastmilk ornaments on our tree. Years from now, my girls can take a look at the ornament and see they had blonde locks as a baby or be able to hold a piece of their mom’s journey. They can hold a piece of my love for them. It becomes more than just decor. It becomes part of your story.

Style Tip: If you selected crushed birthstones or colored flakes based on your baby’s birth month, place it next to ornaments with matching metallics or soft neutrals to make it glow.

2. Nursery Keepsake Wall or Shelf

This keepsake doesn’t have to stay boxed up 11 months of the year. Hang it on a decorative hook, rest it against a memory box, or place it beside your baby’s photo. The soft gold tones and crescent moon shape blend beautifully with nursery decor.

Style Tip: If your ornament contains inclusions like umbilical cord, placenta, or dried florals, consider adding engraving to mark the year it symbolizes and add a photo next to the ornament that marks the moment those memories came from. Just a simple, subtle touch to bring even more meaning to your display.

3. Memory Shadow Box Display

Shadow boxes are a beautiful way to keep everything meaningful in one place. Tuck your ornament inside alongside a hospital bracelet, ultrasound photo, a snippet from your birth announcement, or dried flowers from your baby shower.

Style Tip: Choose a background that’s acid-free to protect any paper items from yellowing over time. Use soft fabric, handwritten notes, or even your baby’s name in vinyl or embroidery to create a display that feels timeless and personal.

4. In a Bedroom or Self-Care Corner

Your ornament doesn’t have to live in a nursery or on a tree. It can also serve as a comforting reminder in your own space — of what you’ve carried, what you’ve created, and how deeply you’ve loved.

Style Tip: Place it somewhere you’ll pass by daily like above your mirror, beside your skincare shelf, or near your journal or nightstand. If it includes ashes or other loss-related inclusions, this can be a quiet, comforting way to keep that memory close.

5. Year-Round Display Stand

Want to keep it on display year-round? Use a minimalist metal ornament stand to showcase your keepsake on a shelf, dresser, or mantel. It turns your ornament into a conversation piece and makes your heart melt each time you pass it.

Style Tip: If your ornament includes multiple inclusions — like breastmilk + umbilical cord or ashes + florals — write a tiny note to keep nearby (or underneath) to showcase what’s inside. It makes your display not just beautiful, but deeply personal.

Bonus — Gifting It? Add These Touches

If you’re gifting the My Moon and Stars Ornament to another mamma, try adding:

  • A handwritten note about what she means to you
  • A small printed ultrasound or baby photo (if you have one)
  • A keepsake charm she can wear everywhere she goes

It’s more than a gift — it’s a story, a memory, and a piece of her journey she can carry with her.
