A little behind the scenes

Sending something as personal as breastmilk, hair, or ashes can feel like such a big step.

We hear a lot of questions about what happens once an order is placed, so we decided it’s time to write a step-by-step look at our process, from the moment you hit "order" to the day you get to hold your keepsake.

1. Preparing your inclusions

Once your order is placed, we'll email you instructions on how to send your inclusions to us. If you've ordered an Inclusion Collection Kit, we'll ship that out first. You fill it, use the prepaid label, and drop it at the post office or schedule a doorstep pickup. Our inclusion kits make the shipping process super simple!

Purchase the Inclusion Collection Kit here or you can follow these instructions to send your inclusions to us.

2. Your setting is made-to-order

Every setting is made-to-order. To keep things moving as efficiently as possible, our jewelers begin crafting your setting as soon as your order is placed rather than waiting for your inclusions to arrive. This is why we often hear, "My keepsake arrived sooner than I expected."

Did you know we designed almost all of our items? 👀

3. The arrival

When your package reaches our studio, we meticulously label all of the contents and log them in our system. We send a confirmation email within a week of receipt. We know these items are irreplaceable, so checking them in securely is always a priority.

4. The preservation process

Once we have your inclusions, preservation begins.

The method depends on what you've sent us:

Breastmilk

Using our proprietary method, your milk is turned into a fine powder that can be set into stone. It undergoes mechanical and chemical preservation, a process that typically takes 48–72 hours.

Ashes, hair, or cord

These are carefully sorted and stored until your custom setting is ready.

5. Creating the stone

When your setting is ready and your inclusions are preserved, we add several resin layers to every keepsake. No UV resin — EVER

Each piece is made with jeweler's grade resin, because quality matters at every step. Stone creation takes approximately 7 days.

Why it takes time

7 days vs. 60 seconds: that's the difference between our process and companies that use UV resin.

6. Shipping Your Keepsake

After a final inspection, your keepsake is carefully packaged and sent to you. It is ready to be worn as a reminder of your beautiful journey.

We'll keep you updated with emails throughout every step, so you always know where your order is in the process. You can also check your order status anytime through your customer account. Have questions? We're always happy to hear from you. Please email us at hello@mllkeepsakes.com
